05/05/2009 : A family affair |
FOR one Coleraine family, rugby is very much a family affair.
On March 25 the Neely family, captain George Neely and his three sons, ran out for Coleraine Fourth’s in their final match of the season, against Holywood Seconds.

Captain of Coleraine Fourth XV, George Neely, and his three sons Graeme, Andrew and Greg before the Holywood game.
The match ended with a 45-0 victory for Coleraine and the Neely’s were personally responsible for two of the tries.
George has captained the Fourths very ably all season and led the side to the final of the Foster Cup in Ravenhill. On that occasion one of his sons joined him but the Holywood match was something else. He was joined on the pitch by Graeme, 28, Andrew, 25, and Greg, 22.
Speaking after the match George said: “It was absolutely fantastic turning out with my three sons.
“It was just amazing to be playing and hear “Daddy, daddy, pass the ball”. It was one of the most amazing things I have ever heard.”
Not only did the quartet play together, they made the last two tries of the game.
Usually the unsung workers of the team, they all wanted to get in on the action. First Graeme scored after a great run by brother Andrew, then Greg scored after father George secured the ball at the back of the scrum.
It was a momentous occasion for all the family but it could all happen again next year.
George said: “I think there could be at least one more year left in me. Maybe we can all play together again next season.”
