25/02/2009 : Coleraine take on City of Derry

COLERAINE may be out of the Towns’ Cup but this weekend’s match, February 28, at home against City of Derry promises to be a real cracker.
Derry are well clear at the top of the Kukri Qualifying League and Coleraine are fighting to maintain a third place finish. The Bannsiders may be cast in the role of underdog but coach Richard Kernohan remains hopeful that his men can provide the upset of the season.
Speaking on Monday he said: “City of Derry is a huge task for us but if we concentrate on what we are doing for the entire match, keep our discipline and keep our penalty count low, we can get a result. We need to show the same strong team spirit we showed at Dungannon and at the end of Saturday’s game against Ballynahinch.
“it will be a fight the whole way, from training, to fitness and selection, right through to the match. There are some injury worries and it will not be until later in the week that we can select the squad. We have a couple of training sessions coming up and we will be looking at last Saturday and where we can improve our performance.
“There are only three games left this season and we want to get the best from each of them. Like all our games, we will be approaching Saturday’s game as simply another match. We will be sticking to our game plan and going for a win.”

Coleraine are still five points clear of Cooke in fourth and 15 clear of fifth spot Ballymoney, in the Kukri league. They both have a game in hand, and the situation could change, but it is looking increasingly likely that Coleraine will be taking part in next seasons All-Ireland Junior Cup. Armagh and City of Derry lead the pack
