BIG hearted rugby supporters in Coleraine pulled out all the stops for a fundraising match on Sunday. See pictures below...... The event saw the Brian Kneeland All-Stars take on a select XV from Coleraine Rugby Club to raise much needed funds for club member Daniel McAuley as he starts out on his long road to recovery. Daniel took ill while he was coaching a youth side more that two months ago and everyone was delighted to see him at the club on Sunday for a short time as he travelled home after being discharged from hospital. The game of four halves saw some of the cream of today’s young players take on the experience and cunning of an older generation. There was a lot of sweat and effort as both sides fought for supremacy and in the end everyone thought they had won. In the bar afterwards there were a lot of sore and tender looking players, plenty of stories about the exceptional skills that had been on display and a great opportunity to rekindle old friendships. The Irish v Australia international match added to the sense of occasion. Brian Kneeland organised the event and he said afterwards: “I would like to thank each and every person who supported the match and the events in the club afterwards. There was a fantastic turnout of players and spectators and their generosity was unbelievable – to date we have raised more than £1,650. “Daniel has been a valued member of the club for many years and it is fitting that we have been able to do so much to help him as he recovers.” Brian revealed that a visiting Portadown side on Saturday emptied their pockets and donated it all to the event. Lots of people gave items for the draw which was held after the game and everyone on the day dug deep to support the very worthwhile cause.
