ONE Coleraine rugby player got the call of his life on Thursday morning. And by Friday afternoon Coleraine regular Steven Dickey was even more delighted when he had the chance to play for the Ulster A team in their emphatic victory over Munster A at Shaws Bridge. Steven was at work on Thursday when he got the call from the Ulster A manager offering him the opportunity of subbing at the Interprovincial game against Munster the next day. A few arrangements were made and soon he was on his way to Belfast. Steven said: “It was a great opportunity for me and it came out of the blue. I was at work when I got the call and it didn’t take me long to arrange things. I went down to Shaws Bridge on Friday and met up with the rest of the squad. “I was brought on at No 7, on the flank, for the last 15 minutes of the match. I think I played all right. I just really went for it and put everything into it. “It was a great experience and a real bonus for me.” In the match, the score was 3-0 to Ulster at the break after a slow first half but more aggressive play by Ulster in the second saw them dominate proceedings, winning 17-5. Steven has been a powerhouse for Coleraine this season, making an impression with his all-out style and improving his performance with every game. Friday was a just reward for his services and may be sign of things yet to come. |
