08/08/2008 : Coleraine v Ulster U-20s and Club Night |
COLERAINE gets the season underway this Friday evening (August 15) with a friendly match against the Ulster Under-20 squad forming the centre piece of a fun filled Club Evening. The friendly fixture will provide a useful shakedown for both teams as preparations for the new season start to peak. Coleraine have been in pre-season training mode for a month now and they are looking forward to getting some quality match time before the first fully competitive game against Banbridge, in the Junior Cup, at the end of the month. Wayne McCabe, chairman of the Coleraine’s Rugby section said: “We are looking forward to the visit from the Ulster Under-20 squad. We have a young team and it will be very useful to run out against some quality opposition. “We are promoting the event as a club evening and we would like to see as many members and friends of the club as possible coming along to enjoy the fun. The action starts at 5.30pm with games of fun and skill on the pitches, from ‘throwing the welly’ to target golf. “Children are catered for with balloons, face painting and other fun activities. A barbeque will be available throughout the evening. “The match kicks off at 7.00pm and a large crowd of spectators are expected. During the interval teams from Coleraine and Randalstown mini sections will take each other on. “After the match there will be a barbeque, followed by live music from the fantastic “Exposure”, and a late bar. It will be a great evening and I encourage members and friends of the club to get their tickets early as numbers will be limited.” Tickets for the event, £10 for adults and £5 for children, are available at the club. Wayne also revealed that there will be an exciting programme of top class entertainment throughout the season, after matches and on weekend evenings. He said: “A lot of people in the Coleraine area don’t realise the great facilities we have here at the club. Instead of always heading for the Ports, I would invite people to come along to Rugby Avenue and see for themselves. “There will always be a welcome for visitors to the club and this week’s club evening and match could be the ideal time to check the club out.”
