08/08/2008 : Training for Thirds, Fourths, Fifths |
TRAINING is stepping up a gear at Coleraine Rugby Club. The focus has been on the upper teams as pre-season training started in July but, with the season fast approaching, training for the Thirds, Fourths and Fifths is also now underway. This year, dedicated coaching for the teams has started every Tuesday and Wednesday evening. Training will be in the capable hands of David Allen and Marty McCullough. David is a lifelong member of Coleraine and played there for many years. Likewise, Marty has been involved at most levels in the club over the years. The enterprising duo have now decided to put something back into the club that has given them so much in the past and want to help all the teams in the club develop to their maximum potential. They will be on hand during the week and at weekends to direct fitness and skills training. David said: “We have already got a good number of players out training but we want more. Anyone who wants to join in and get a game for the club should come along any Tuesday of Thursday, from 7.00 - 8.15pm. “It doesn’t matter if you have played before or are looking to get back into the game, you will get a warm welcome. We also want to see current players turning out for a bit of training. Their game can only benefit and we will be doing our best to make the training interesting as well as beneficial.” Meanwhile club coach Richard Kernohan has been encouraged by overall turnout and enthusiasm at training. He said: “There is a great spirit in the camp and everyone is working very hard. It augurs well for the season. “For various reasons there are still some players who have yet to get into training. Hopefully they will soon be into action as the season draws closer.”
