02/07/2010 : World Cup five-a-side tournament great success |
MORE than 100 people took part in the inaugural Summer Five-a-Side Football Tournament at the club on Saturday, June 26.
Tournament director Mark Giffin was delighted with the response and hopes that it will become an annual event at the club.
This year each team took the name of one of the World Cup teams and after a great competition Nigeria defied all the odds and came out on top after a full-blooded battle with the mighty Spain.

More than 100 members of the club and friends gathered for the competition, enjoying sunshine, and torrential rain, as well as a few drinks, a BBQ and a lot of friendly fun and banter.
Mark Giffin said: "I want to thank everyone who took part in the competition and especially Brian Kneeland who did so much to organise the event. It is a great way to keep members and friends involved in the club during the summer.
"We have raised over £300 which will go to charity, another good reason for joining in.
"Now we have plans for a Tag Rugby tournament on JULY 24 and a Cricket match pencilled in for SEPTEMBER 5, again with an eye to raising some more funds. Everybody will be welcome to join in and support the events."
